To give you a breakdown of what you should do to keep your bedroom closet looking fresh, we are offering you two checklists.
One is for major re-organization and the other is a simple maintenance check-list that you can do every week to help keep up your neat closet.
Organize
- Clean the trash
Make sure to remove all the litter that may be lingering in your closet. Don’t forget about clothing tags, shopping bags, or anything else that is simply garbage. - Remove items that go elsewhere
It’s really easy to allow your closet to become the resting place for things that simply don’t belong. Kick out bulky items that can be stored in a basement, garage or attic. Think about what you use your closet for and don’t allow frivolous things to post up shop. - Sort out wanted/unwanted
Cleaning out your closet is a great time to donate items that you never use. Make two separate piles of what you want to keep and what you can live without. For those that have a hard time giving things away consider taking your clothes to consignment or putting them in a yard sale for some extra cash. - Create a storage unit (baskets, bins, racks, etc.)
Make a storage system that works for you. If you prefer to be able to see your items then choose storage that allows you to have easy visual access. If you prefer to have your things hidden away then baskets and bins may be the best choice for you. Remember, this is a time to really play with different textures and styles to bring out the design of your bedroom. - Pair similar items together
For simple access and easy maintenance go ahead and put like items together. You’ll appreciate it later when closet organization loses its shimmer. Putting things together that is the same is practical and will save you a ton of time in the future.
Maintain
- Put items back where they belong
Get in the habit of putting things back. Yeah, it may seem like a hassle at first, but before long you will get into the habit of doing it. - Check out the trash
Do a check over every few days to make sure that no garbage has made its way into your organized oasis. - Donate unused materials
If you don’t use it then you don’t need it. Let your loss become someone else’s gain.
Following these simple tips will keep your bedroom closet looking great and make it much easier to find what you need.
